A tragic incident in Uttar Pradesh has resulted in the deaths of a young couple, just four months after their marriage. The husband allegedly killed his wife before taking his own life.

According to reports from January 17, 2026, the husband, Sachin Singh, surrendered at the Maharajpur police station late at night. He was reportedly panicked and confessed to killing his wife, Shweta Singh. Police took him into custody and recovered Shweta's body from the location Sachin provided.

Initial investigations reveal that Sachin and Shweta had a court marriage approximately four months prior, against the wishes of their families. The motive behind the murder-suicide is currently under investigation.

The incident occurred in the Ruma area, where 25-year-old Shweta Singh was found strangled in a rented room. A police and forensic team were dispatched to the scene to gather evidence. Sachin Singh, a resident of Mahanpur village in Fatehpur district, arrived at the police station in tears, causing a stir among the officers.

This is not an isolated incident, as domestic murder-suicides, though uncommon, occur yearly in the United States, with approximately 600 cases resulting in 1,000 to 1,500 deaths. These tragedies often involve intimate partners and commonly occur in domestic settings.

In more than half of murder-suicides where an intimate partner is the victim, there is a history of domestic conflict. Perpetrators are also more likely to be married, cohabitating, separated, or divorced than those who only commit murder or suicide. While these factors don't predict domestic murder-suicide, their presence should raise concern.
