In a surprising turn of events, Prateek Yadav, the brother of Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, has announced his intention to divorce his wife, Aparna Yadav, a BJP leader. The announcement was made via a strongly worded Instagram post on Monday, January 19, 2026, which has since gone viral and sparked widespread discussion across social media platforms.
Prateek Yadav, son of the late Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, accused Aparna of being selfish and held her responsible for disrupting his family life. In his post, he stated, "I am going to divorce this selfish woman as soon as possible. She ruined my family ties. All she wants to become is famous and influential". He further added, "I have never seen such a bad soul, and it was my misfortune that I married her".
Prateek also spoke about his mental health, alleging that Aparna doesn't care about his condition and is only focused on herself. "Currently, my mental state is very poor, and she doesn't care, because she only worries about herself," he wrote.
Aparna Yadav, who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2022, has not yet publicly responded to the allegations. She currently serves as the vice chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh State Commission for Women. Aparna previously contested the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election from the Lucknow Cantonment constituency on an SP ticket but was defeated by BJP's Rita Bahuguna Joshi.
Prateek Yadav is primarily known as the younger son of Mulayam Singh Yadav and the step-brother of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. He has generally maintained a lower profile compared to his brother. Prateek and Aparna married in 2011 and have a daughter together.
As of now, there has been no official confirmation of divorce proceedings from either side. The matter is still unfolding, with reactions pouring in across social media.
