Varun Dhawan and Diljit Dosanjh Bond Over Cricket and Ice-Cream During Border 2 Filming.

In the lead-up to the release of "Border 2" on January 23, 2026, Varun Dhawan has shared insights into the camaraderie he developed with his co-star Diljit Dosanjh on set. The film, a sequel to the 1997 hit "Border", is directed by Anurag Singh and features a cast including Sunny Deol and Ahan Shetty.

Dhawan revealed that the atmosphere on the "Border 2" set was lighthearted, despite the movie's serious subject matter which is set against the backdrop of the India-Pakistan war of 1971. He fondly recalled engaging in recreational activities with Dosanjh between takes. "We'd play cricket and have ice cream together," Dhawan shared, highlighting the bond they created.

"Border 2" expands upon the scope of its predecessor by showcasing the combined operations of the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy. Sunny Deol reprises his role as Lt Col Fateh Singh Kaler, while Dhawan plays Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya, Diljit Dosanjh portrays Fg Offr Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, and Ahan Shetty embodies Lt Cdr M. S. Rawat. The film also features Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Anya Singh, and Medha Rana in pivotal roles.

The film has been shot across various military locations, including Jhansi Cantonment, Babina Cantonment, and the National Defence Academy. Real-world defense installations like the INS Vikrant were also used. The trailer, unveiled on Indian Army Day, has garnered praise for its cinematic scale.

"Border 2" has been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with a UA 13+ certificate and zero cuts, ensuring that the film remains true to the director's vision. The film has a runtime of 3 hours and 16 minutes.

Advance bookings for "Border 2" have already surpassed those of Sunny Deol's previous film "Jaat," indicating strong audience interest. The film is expected to benefit from the Republic Day weekend.

The soundtrack for "Border 2" was released on January 14, 2026. The film's tagline, "Hindustan ke liye ladenge... phir ek baar!" (We will fight for India… once again!), evokes a sense of patriotism.
