Ace director Lokesh Kanagaraj has refuted rumors that he unfollowed Tamil cinema icons Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan on social media. The filmmaker addressed the speculation during a media interaction on Monday, January 27, 2026, stating firmly that he never took such action. He also urged media outlets to verify information with him or his team before publishing such claims.

The rumors gained traction after reports suggested Kanagaraj might have been removed from a project starring Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. Some reports even alluded that the underperformance of "Coolie" at the box office might have jeopardized Kanagaraj's chances of directing the two legends under Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI). The speculation intensified after the announcement of "Thalaivar 173," a joint production by Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International and Red Giant Movies, with Sundar C confirmed as the director.

Kanagaraj dismissed these rumors, pointing out that he still prominently follows both Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan on his social media. He expressed his gratitude for the opportunities he has had to work with both actors, stating that it was his good fortune to work with them, especially coming from a rural background.

Adding a touch of humor, Kanagaraj also recalled an incident from two years prior when he mistakenly liked a video while scrolling, highlighting the potential for misinterpretations in the digital age.
