Injured Brodin traded by Team Sweden to Bruins for defensive reinforcements in preparation for tournament.

Team Sweden's Olympic roster has undergone a significant change due to an injury to defenseman Jonas Brodin. Brodin, a key player for the Minnesota Wild, has been ruled out of the upcoming Winter Olympics in Milan due to a lower-body injury that required surgery. The announcement came after it was determined that Brodin would not recover in time for the Olympic tournament, which begins on February 11.

To fill the void left by Brodin's absence, Team Sweden has added Boston Bruins defenseman Hampus Lindholm to their Olympic roster. Lindholm, a left-shooting, defensive-minded player, brings a wealth of experience and a similar style of play to Brodin. This season, Lindholm has recorded three goals and 13 assists in 39 games for the Bruins, averaging 22:04 of ice time per game.

The loss of Brodin is a blow to Sweden's defensive corps. Brodin has been a consistent and reliable presence on the blue line for both the Wild and the Swedish national team. According to reports, he has been sidelined since January 12th. Missing the Olympics is a significant setback for Brodin, especially considering that this may have been his only opportunity to compete in the Winter Games.

Hampus Lindholm's addition provides a solid replacement. Lindholm has a strong track record in the NHL and has also represented Sweden in international competitions. Lindholm, 32, has three goals and 16 points in 39 games for the Bruins this season.

In addition to the change on defense, Team Sweden also had to replace Anaheim Ducks center Leo Carlsson, who underwent a procedure on his thigh. Carlsson is expected to miss three to five weeks. Minnesota Wild forward Marcus Johansson will replace Carlsson.

With these adjustments, Sweden aims to maintain its status as a top contender in the Olympic ice hockey tournament. Sweden will face host nation Italy in the opening game on February 11.
