Lok Sabha Uproar: Suspension of 8 Opposition MPs Explained - Reasons and Key Players Involved.

On February 3, 2026, the Lok Sabha witnessed the suspension of eight opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) following what was deemed "unruly behaviour" during the ongoing Budget Session. The incident involved the throwing of papers towards the Speaker's Chair, an action that has been strongly condemned as a breach of parliamentary decorum.

The suspended MPs are Hibi Eden, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Manickam Tagore, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Kiran Kumar Reddy, Prashant Padole, S Venkataraman, and Dean Kuriakose. All eight of the suspended MPs are members of the Congress party.

The suspensions occurred amidst continued disruptions in the House during a discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address. The situation escalated when Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, sought to quote from an unpublished "memoir" by former army chief MM Naravane. According to reports, this memoir contained politically sensitive statements regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

When the Lok Sabha reconvened at 3 p.m. after several adjournments, Dilip Saikia, who was presiding over the House, formally named the eight Congress MPs who would face action. Subsequently, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju moved a resolution seeking their suspension for the remainder of the Budget session, which is scheduled to conclude on April 2. The resolution was adopted by a voice vote. Following the vote, the Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day amidst continued uproar. Proceedings are scheduled to resume on Wednesday at 11 a.m.

The Speaker has strongly condemned the behaviour, emphasizing that such actions will not be tolerated during the Budget Session. Outside Parliament, Congress parliamentarians, led by Rahul Gandhi, staged protests against the suspensions. Gandhi argued that he was being prevented from making a statement about the situation between China and India and the Prime Minister's reaction to it. He authenticated a copy of an article citing Naravane's unpublished memoir, asserting its importance to the President's address. However, his attempts to speak on the matter were cut short, leading to protests from Congress MPs.
