In an exclusive interview, veteran actor Mukesh Tiwari, known for his iconic role as "Vasooli Bhai" in the Golmaal series, shared his experiences and insights on his latest project, Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain! – Fun on the Run, a cinematic adaptation of the popular television show. While joining the cast of the film, Tiwari confessed that he approached the project without any preconceived notions.
Tiwari, who has a career spanning over two decades, has played a variety of roles, from negative characters to comedic ones. He emphasized that he always looks for projects that challenge him as an actor and offer something new. This was a key factor in his decision to join the Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain! movie.
Speaking about his role in the film, Tiwari expressed his delight in working with seasoned actors such as Aasif Sheikh and Rohitashv Gour, the latter being his senior from the National School of Drama (NSD). He also spoke highly of Ravi Kishan, with whom he reunited on set. Tiwari recalled an incident when Kishan had watched his film Gangaajal and visited him on the set of Taarzan – The Wonder Car to commend his performance.
When asked about being typecast in comedy roles after his portrayal of Vasooli Bhai, Tiwari explained that he consciously avoided similar roles, preferring to play the same character within the Golmaal franchise instead. He has always been wary of being stereotyped and strives to bring versatility to his performances.
Discussing the transition from television to film for Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!, Tiwari acknowledged the difference in shooting styles. He noted how television often requires multiple takes to achieve perfection due to time constraints, while film shoots operate differently. The Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain! film was shot in a record 20 days in Mussoorie and Dehradun.
Tiwari also shared his views on the rise of OTT platforms, noting that the format allows for better character development due to the longer duration and episodic structure. He emphasized that an actor's job is to act, regardless of the medium, be it stage, cinema, or OTT.
Despite his initial reluctance towards comedy, Tiwari's portrayal of Vasooli Bhai has become iconic. He admitted that he never anticipated the character's popularity and that it remains a personal favorite. Tiwari's journey from playing intense characters in films like China Gate and Gangaajal to embracing comedic roles demonstrates his range and adaptability as an actor.
While details about his specific role in Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain! – Fun on the Run remain under wraps, audiences can anticipate Tiwari's signature comedic timing and unique touch to the film. The movie promises to be a "complete laughter ride".
