Bhagwan Dada, who was also a director and producer, is remembered for his unique dance style and contribution to Bollywood's golden era. Born Bhagwan Abhaji Palav, he started his film journey in the silent era with the film Criminal. In 1938, he co-directed his first talkie, Bahadur Kisan, with Chandrarao Kadam. From 1938 to 1949, he directed many stunt and action films that were popular with working-class audiences, including the Tamil film Vana Mohini.

In 1942, Bhagwan Dada ventured into production under the banner of Jagruti Pictures. By 1947, he had acquired land and established Jagriti Studios in Chembur. On the advice of Raj Kapoor, Bhagwan Dada shifted his focus to social themes, resulting in Albela, in which he starred opposite Geeta Bali. The music for Albela was composed by his close friend C. Ramchandra, also known as Chitalkar. The film featured hit songs like "Shola Jo Bhadke" and "O Beta Ji O Babuji Qismat Ki Hawa Kabhi Naram," which further cemented Bhagwan Dada's legacy. In 1956, he also starred in and directed Bhagam Bhag.
