Mumbai – Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat lauded Bollywood actor Salman Khan's widespread influence on the youth during an event celebrating the organization's centenary year. The event, a two-day lecture series titled '100 Years of Sangh Journey: New Horizons,' was held in Mumbai and drew a large crowd eager to reflect on the RSS's history and its impact on society.
Bhagwat specifically praised Khan's impact on fashion trends among college students. According to Mid-Day, Bhagwat remarked, "College students copy Salman Khan's fashion. When asked why, they say they don't know. Salman is doing it. The context being good values in society should become a fashion". Bhagwat's comments suggest that he sees Khan as a figure whose influence could potentially promote positive values within society.
Khan was seen listening attentively to Bhagwat's speech, flanked by filmmaker Subhash Ghai and lyricist-poet Prasoon Joshi. Bhagwat outlined the RSS's approach, emphasizing its focus on national unity, working in the national interest without opposing any particular group, and acting without seeking power.
The event saw a number of Bollywood celebrities in attendance, including Ranbir Kapoor, Hema Malini, Poonam Dhillon, Subhash Ghai, Prasoon Joshi, and Mohit Suri. A video circulating on social media showed Kapoor hugging director Nitesh Tiwari outside the venue. Khan's presence at the event drew considerable attention, with fans eagerly snapping photos of the "Ek Tha Tiger" star.
Khan's reaction to Bhagwat's remarks has also gained traction online, with many social media users agreeing with Bhagwat's assessment of Khan's influence. Some fans have hailed Khan as a "trendsetter" since the 1990s, citing his impact on bodybuilding, dance styles, and fashion choices.
In related news, Bhagwat addressed the topic of population imbalance at the event. He identified religious conversion, infiltration, and low birth rates as key factors, suggesting that scientific research indicates families should have three children, while emphasizing that it remains a personal choice. He also stated that everyone living in India is Hindu, describing Hindu as an adjective reflecting India's civilizational nature, not a noun.
Mohan Bhagwat has served as the Sarsanghchalak (Chief) of the RSS since 2009. The RSS is a Hindu nationalist organization that was founded in 1925.
