Joe Keery Dishes on Bad Jobs, Liam Neeson, and His Chilling New Horror Movie, Cold Storage

Joe Keery is making headlines with the upcoming release of "Cold Storage," a horror film where he stars alongside Liam Neeson and Georgina Campbell. In recent interviews, Keery has shared insights into the movie, his experiences on set, and even some unexpected behind-the-scenes moments.

"Cold Storage" throws Keery, Campbell, and Neeson into a battle against a toxic goo that turns people into zombies. The film, based on David Koepp's 2019 novel, centers on two night security guards, Naomi (Campbell) and Teacake (Keery), who discover a parasitic green fungus in their storage facility and must save humanity from extinction. Liam Neeson plays a world-weary bioterror operative who has encountered the fungus before. The film promises a thrilling ride filled with horrible, disgusting, shocking, tender, and funny moments. Jonny Campbell, the director, describes it as a "joyride with thrills and laughs," comparing it to "The Goonies for grown-ups".

Keery plays Travis, nicknamed Teacake, an ex-con trying to stay on the right path with a dead-end job at the storage facility. Described as a chatty everyman, Teacake grapples with the bizarre events unfolding around him. Reviews highlight the charming dynamic between Keery and Campbell, praising their ability to balance humor and heart amidst the chaos.

Working with Liam Neeson was a significant experience for Keery. He admitted that it was "pretty crazy" to work alongside someone he grew up watching. Keery noted Neeson's no-nonsense demeanor, drawing parallels between the actor and his character in the film. During the press tour, an unexpected moment arose when Neeson asked Keery to explain the musical genre "trip-hop". Keery, who had created trip-hop playlists for his role, humorously struggled to articulate the genre, describing it as "kind of breakbeat drums" from the early 90s.

Beyond acting, Keery is also known for his musical endeavors as part of the band DJO. He mentioned incorporating music into his acting process, creating playlists to inform his characters. For "Cold Storage," Keery listened to trip-hop, aligning with a detail from the book.

"Cold Storage" has been described as a "spiritual cousin" to horror-comedies like "Zombieland" and "Slither", with Collider's Nate Richard noting its "perfect length" for the genre. The film embraces its B-movie roots, delivering a fun, over-the-top experience with practical effects and plenty of gore. The movie is set to release on February 13 and has already garnered positive attention, with Liam Neeson achieving his best Rotten Tomatoes score in nearly a decade.
