Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth over Rs 5,400 crore in Ahmedabad. The projects encompass urban development, energy, roads, and railways. The inauguration took place at Khodaldham ground in Ahmedabad, where the Prime Minister also addressed a public gathering.
Several railway projects, valued at over Rs 1,400 crore, were dedicated to the nation. These include the doubling of the 65-km Mahesana-Palanpur rail line, constructed at a cost of over Rs 530 crore. Additionally, the gauge conversion of the 37-km Kalol-Kadi-Katosan Road rail line and the 40-km Bechraji-Ranuj rail line, with a combined cost exceeding Rs 860 crore, was also completed. These enhancements aim to improve connectivity, ensuring safer and smoother travel for commuters, tourists, and businesses, while also promoting regional economic integration. A new passenger train service between Katosan Road and Sabarmati will improve access to religious sites and stimulate local economic activity. Furthermore, a car-loaded freight train service from Bechraji is set to strengthen logistics networks and boost industrial hubs, creating employment opportunities.
To improve road connectivity and commuter safety, the Prime Minister inaugurated the widening of the Viramgam-Khudad-Rampura road. He also laid the foundation stone for six-lane vehicle underpasses on the Ahmedabad-Mehsana-Palanpur road and a railway overbridge on the Ahmedabad-Viramgam road. These projects are expected to improve transport efficiency, ease traffic flow, and drive industrial growth in the region.
In the power sector, distribution projects worth over Rs 1,000 crore under the Uttar Gujarat Vij Company Limited (UGVCL) in Ahmedabad, Mehsana, and Gandhinagar were inaugurated. These projects, implemented under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme, will modernize the network, reduce power losses, and enhance reliability, minimizing outages during adverse weather conditions and improving public safety.
Urban development also received a boost with the inauguration of the redevelopment of slums at Sector-3 of Ramapir No Tekro under the In Situ Slum Rehabilitation Component of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). The foundation stone was laid for road widening projects on the Sardar Patel Ring Road around Ahmedabad and key urban infrastructure initiatives to strengthen water and sewerage management systems.
On the second day of his visit, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the localized production of hybrid battery electrodes and flag off the exports of Suzuki's first global Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), the “e VITARA,” to over 100 countries, including Europe and Japan, at the Suzuki Motor plant in Hansalpur, Ahmedabad.
