The Marathi and Hindi television industry is mourning the loss of Priya Marathe, who passed away on August 31, 2025, at the age of 38. The actress, best known for her role as Varsha in the popular show "Pavitra Rishta," had been battling cancer for several years. Her death has left her colleagues, friends, and fans heartbroken.

Marathe breathed her last at her residence in Mira Road, Mumbai. Her last rites were performed on the same day, with several members of the Marathi television fraternity in attendance.

Among those present were actors Abhijeet Khandekar, Prarthana Behere, and Suyash Tilak, who were visibly emotional as they bid farewell to their friend and colleague. Prarthana Behere, who shared a close bond with Marathe and also acted alongside her in "Pavitra Rishta," was seen breaking down in tears. A clip circulating on social media showed Behere and others grieving the loss.

Priya Marathe was born on April 23, 1987, in Mumbai. She completed her schooling and college in the city before venturing into the entertainment industry. Marathe began her career with Marathi serials like "Ya Sukhano Ya" and "Char Divas Sasuche". Her career gained momentum with her role as Vidya Bali in "Kasamh Se". She also showcased her versatility by participating in the first season of "Comedy Circus".

She gained widespread recognition for her role as Varsha in "Pavitra Rishta," where she starred alongside the late Sushant Singh Rajput. She also appeared in "Bade Achhe Lagte Hain" as Jyoti Malhotra and earned praise for her performance in the Marathi show "Tu Tithe Me". In 2017, she joined the cast of "Saath Nibhaana Saathiya" on Star Plus, playing Bhavani Rathod. Marathe's filmography also includes roles in "Uttaran," "Bharat Ka Veer Putra – Maharana Pratap," "Savdhaan India," and "Aata Hou De Dhingana". She last appeared in "Tuzech Mi Geet Gaat Aahe" in 2023. Citing health reasons, she had to leave the show.

Priya Marathe married actor Shantanu Moghe in 2012. Moghe is known for his role in the historical series "Swarajya Rakshak Sambhaji". The couple shared 14 years together.
