A tragic road accident in Himachal Pradesh's Una district has resulted in the deaths of three people after an ambulance carrying a patient veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge. The incident occurred on Saturday morning, September 6, 2025, near Gagret on the Chintpurni-Hoshiarpur road.
The ambulance was en route from Tanda Medical College to DMC-Ludhiana, transporting a patient from Jasur along with family members. As the vehicle approached the Manguwal area near Gagret, the driver reportedly lost control, causing the ambulance to plunge into the gorge.
Among the deceased were Sanjiv Soni (50), Onkar Chand (70), and Rakesh Kapoor (45), all residents of Himachal Pradesh. Onkar Chand was the patient being transported. The injured, Renu Kapoor (49) and the ambulance driver, Bobby, were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are in critical but stable condition. Some reports indicate they were initially treated at a government facility in Hoshiarpur before being transferred to a private hospital.
Local residents and police personnel immediately launched a rescue operation to assist the victims. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, with initial suspicions pointing towards overspeeding or a mechanical failure. Another report suggests that the road berm caved in due to heavy rains, causing the driver to lose control. The road where the accident occurred is known to be accident-prone. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for postmortem examination.
The incident has raised concerns about road safety, particularly on hilly routes frequently used by emergency vehicles. The tragic event highlights the dangers of driving on mountainous roads, especially during the monsoon season when heavy rains can cause landslides and road damage.
