Divya Khossla immersed herself in the gritty reality of slum life for 20 days to prepare for her role in the recently released film, 'Ek Chatur Naar'. The film, which hit theaters on September 12, 2025, is a black comedy thriller directed by Umesh Shukla and stars Khossla alongside Neil Nitin Mukesh.

To authentically portray her character, a slum girl, Khossla lived in a slum in Badshah Nagar, Lucknow. She shared that she was initially taken aback by the difficult conditions. She not only learned the local slang and performed daily chores like sweeping, scrubbing, and cleaning, but also lived beside a gutter. "They made me do everything, including jhadu, katka, and pocha sab," she said.

Khossla recounted her experience of living next to a "ganda naala" (gutter). Initially, the smell was unbearable, but she eventually got used to it. However, one particular incident left her shaken. She recalled standing at the edge of an open drain, very close to falling in, which made her extremely scared. Director Umesh Shukla revealed that some scenes were filmed without informing the actors of the location beforehand to capture their genuine reactions. For the "naala" sequence, they took Khossla directly to the spot to film her natural reaction.

In an interview, Khossla shared that she even got lice in her hair during her stay. Despite the challenging environment, she observed that the slum residents had a positive attitude towards life. She noted that they seemed more satisfied and carefree because they had no grand ambitions. She was often invited into their homes and witnessed women helping each other by removing lice from their hair.

Khossla also spoke about learning the local dialect of Uttar Pradesh for the film. She studied videos of influencers from the region and even asked colleagues from Uttar Pradesh to teach her a few colloquial expressions and cuss words to make her dialogue sound authentic. One of the film's most talked-about moments is a monologue delivered by Khossla in the trailer, which was actually improvised by the actress.

'Ek Chatur Naar' explores the relationship between a slum girl and a wealthy businessman. Khossla stars as Mamta Mishra, a clever woman who navigates the challenges of her environment with wit and resourcefulness. Neil Nitin Mukesh plays Abhishek Verma, and the cast also includes Chhaya Kadam, Sushant Singh, and Rajneesh Duggal. The film opened with ₹50 lakh at the Indian box office.
