Andhra Pradesh police are currently searching for a man who allegedly tied his wife to a wooden pole and physically assaulted her in a village located in the Prakasam district. The incident reportedly occurred on September 13, 2025, and came to light on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.
The accused, identified as Balraju, suspected his first wife, Bhagyamma, of infidelity. Balraju, who has two wives, had been staying with his second wife and had recently returned to his village in Tarlupadu Mandal. He had asked Bhagyamma to bring money for medical expenses, as he was suffering from a health ailment and needed treatment at a private hospital. However, Bhagyamma refused, explaining that she was the sole caretaker of four children and could not afford to give him the money. This refusal reportedly angered Balraju, leading him to tie Bhagyamma to a wooden pole and brutally assault her. A video of the assault has gone viral.
In a similar incident that took place in July 2025 in Andhra Pradesh's West Godavari district, a woman was tied to a pole and beaten by her co-worker's wife and relatives after being accused of having an affair. The victim, who worked at a seafood company, was allegedly dragged from her home, tied to a pole in the village center, and physically assaulted. Police intervened, rescued the woman, and took her to Bhimavaram Government Hospital for treatment. Several women involved in the assault were detained, and an investigation is underway.
Another incident from Odisha, in September 2025, involved villagers tying two men and a woman to an electric pole and thrashing them over a suspected affair.
