In Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, a man has been arrested on accusations of murdering his first wife, father, and mother in order to claim insurance money worth ₹50 crore.
Vishal Kumar, from Meerut, is alleged to have killed his mother in 2017 and claimed ₹22 lakh in insurance. In 2020, his wife died under suspicious circumstances, and he claimed ₹80 lakh. Last year, his father allegedly died in a staged road accident near Garh Ganga, leading Vishal to claim ₹39 crore from multiple insurance companies. While one firm had already released ₹1.5 crore, Niva BUPA flagged irregularities during verification. Investigations revealed Vishal had taken over 50 insurance policies from companies including Niva BUPA, Tata AIG, Max Life, Tata AIA, Aditya Birla and HDFC Ergo. Despite declaring an annual income of only ₹12–15 lakh, his claims exceeded ₹39 crore. Discrepancies between Mukesh's hospital records and post-mortem report raised suspicions, while witnesses admitted being paid to support Vishal's accident story. The alleged vehicle involved in the crash was never produced. Authorities also found inconsistencies in Aadhar and PAN details. During interrogation, he confessed to murdering his parents. The death of his wife is also under fresh investigation. Officials further alleged he attempted to bribe an insurance officer to push through a claim.
This scheme unraveled after his fourth wife exposed the plot. Police investigations revealed a pattern of deaths and fraudulent insurance claims. Vishal Kumar had taken out numerous insurance policies in his family members' names, and their deaths were all presented as accidental. However, inconsistencies in the evidence and Vishal's attempts to rush the insurance claims raised red flags.
