The North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja Pandal became the backdrop for a heartwarming reunion between veteran actress Jaya Bachchan and Kajol during the Saptami celebrations. The annual Durga Puja festivities of the Mukerji family in Mumbai, held at the SNDT Grounds in Juhu, drew a host of Bollywood stars and devotees.
Jaya Bachchan's presence at the pandal was marked by a warm embrace with Kajol, evoking nostalgia among fans who fondly remember their on-screen relationship as mother-in-law and daughter-in-law in the film "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham". The two actresses shared smiles, laughter, and a candid conversation, captivating onlookers and photographers alike.
For the occasion, Jaya Bachchan donned an elegant ivory-hued saree with gold accents, complemented by a neatly styled bun. Kajol embraced the festive spirit in a yellow ombre saree. The veteran actresses offered prayers to Maa Durga.
The Durga Puja celebrations also served as an emotional moment for the Mukerji family, who remembered Deb Mukherjee, father of Ayan Mukerji, who passed away in March 2025. Deb Mukherjee was integral to organizing the annual Durga Puja pandal. Kajol shared her feelings on Instagram, expressing that visiting the pandal felt "dearer and at the same time so tough to do" after the past year's losses.
Prior to Saptami, Kajol, along with her sister Tanishaa Mukerji and cousins Rani and Ayan Mukerji, inaugurated the Durga Puja festivities, unveiling the Maa Durga idol amidst the chanting of the Durga Devi Strotram.
The celebrations also saw other celebrities, including Ranbir Kapoor, Vatsal Sheth, and Ishita Dutta, participate in the rituals. Kajol was spotted spending time with Vatsal Sheth, his wife Ishita Dutta, and their son Vaayu.
The Durga Puja celebrations in Mumbai are expected to conclude with the immersion of Maa Durga on Dussehra.
