Jaipur, India – A truck accident on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway turned into a scene of terror Tuesday night as a collision ignited a cargo of LPG cylinders, triggering a series of powerful explosions. The incident, captured on video by horrified onlookers, shows স্থানীয় жители, who quickly fled for their lives as the cylinders detonated, sending debris flying hundreds of meters.
The accident occurred near Dudu village in Mauzamabad tehsil of Jaipur, when a chemical tanker reportedly crashed into a truck carrying LPG cylinders. The impact sparked a fire in the tanker's cabin, which was filled with flammable chemicals, before spreading to the truck and its volatile cargo. The resulting explosions were so intense that they were heard up to 10 kilometers away.
Videos circulating on social media depict a terrifying scene of leaping flames and deafening blasts. Some of the exploding cylinders were propelled as far as 500 meters into nearby fields. One eyewitness, Vinod, stated that the truck carrying LPG cylinders was parked outside a roadside hotel when the tanker hit it from behind.
Emergency services, including police and fire brigades, rushed to the scene, halting traffic on the busy highway. Firefighters battled the blaze for hours as the explosions continued intermittently. According to initial reports, one person was killed in the accident. The driver of the tanker was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries. Deputy Chief Minister Prem Chand Bairwa stated that the fire had been brought under control and that ambulances were on site.
Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed his condolences via X, calling the incident "extremely tragic" and promising assistance to those affected. He said that instructions had been given to the district administration to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured.
The Jaipur-Ajmer highway was closed for over six hours, causing major disruption, before being reopened to traffic early Wednesday morning. Jaipur Collector Dr Jitendra Soni reported that a team from Hindustan Petroleum was on site.
This is not the first time such an incident has occurred on this stretch of highway. In December of last year, a similar collision between an LPG tanker and a truck near Bhankrota resulted in a massive fire that killed 19 people. Authorities are likely to face renewed scrutiny regarding safety measures for transporting hazardous materials on this busy route.
