New Delhi, October 8, 2025 – Bhojpuri actor and politician Pawan Singh has been granted Y+ category security ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections. The decision, approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs, comes amid speculation about Singh's potential return to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and his growing political prominence in the region.
Sources indicate that the security upgrade was prompted by a threat perception report. The Y+ security detail will include 11 personnel, comprising armed commandos and personal security officers, who will accompany Singh at all times. They will also manage secure vehicles and provide close protection.
Singh, a popular actor and singer in the Bhojpuri film industry, has a significant following in Bihar, particularly in the Shahabad and Magadh regions. He has been a figure in recent political events, meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda, further fueling speculation about his political plans.
A year ago, Singh was expelled from the BJP following two controversies. The first arose when he was initially offered the BJP's Lok Sabha ticket from Asansol in West Bengal. However, he withdrew following criticism from the Trinamool Congress (TMC), who objected to his songs, alleging they "objectified" Bengali women. The second controversy occurred when he contested the Lok Sabha elections independently from Bihar's Karakat seat. Despite losing, he secured a substantial number of votes, demonstrating his influence among voters.
Authorities provide Y+ security to protect individuals who face credible threats, including public figures, politicians, business leaders, and celebrities. This level of security offers a structured protection system for those under moderate to serious threat. Compared to Y-level security, Y+ ensures higher safety standards.
The provision of Y+ security to Pawan Singh suggests his perceived vulnerability and the government's concern for his safety in the lead-up to the Bihar elections. This move may also indicate Singh's potential re-entry into the BJP, which could bolster the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar.
