Rishab Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1 continues its impressive run at the box office, achieving remarkable success both domestically and internationally. On its tenth day, the film's India net collection reached approximately ₹396.65 crore. This strong performance has allowed Kantara Chapter 1 to surpass the domestic collections of major Bollywood and South Indian films, including Rajinikanth's Jailer and Aamir Khan's Dangal.
The movie witnessed a substantial 66% jump in collections on its second Saturday, demonstrating continued audience interest. Early estimates for day 10 indicate a ₹37 crore net earning in India across all languages.
Kantara Chapter 1 has not only performed well in India but has also made a significant impact worldwide. The film has crossed the ₹500 crore mark in worldwide gross collections. Hombale Films, the production house behind Kantara Chapter 1, announced that the film had grossed ₹509 crore worldwide in its first eight days. After nine days, the film's collection was expected to be over ₹540 crore, though industry trackers estimated it to be closer to ₹520 crore.
With its current performance, Kantara Chapter 1 has surpassed the lifetime collections of notable films such as Coolie and War. Coolie amassed ₹518 crore, while War made ₹475 crore. The film is steadily climbing the ranks to enter the top 25 highest-grossing films in India.
Kantara Chapter 1 has become the highest-grossing Kannada film of 2025, surpassing Su From So. The Kannada version of the film led the way in occupancy on Saturday, followed by Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, and Hindi versions. Bengaluru recorded the highest number of screenings for the Kannada version with impressive occupancy.
The success of Kantara Chapter 1 can be attributed to positive word-of-mouth and its compelling narrative. The film has been praised for its exploration of the origins of the Buta Kola ritual.
Rishab Shetty not only directed Kantara Chapter 1 but also stars in the lead role, alongside Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah, and Jayaram. The film serves as a prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara.
