Patna, India – The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has finalized its seat-sharing arrangement for the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025. The announcement, made on Sunday, October 12, 2025, sets the stage for a high-stakes electoral battle in the politically crucial state.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)], led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, will contest 101 seats each out of the total 243 Assembly seats. This allocation reflects the importance of both parties within the alliance and their respective strengths in different regions of Bihar.
Smaller allies within the NDA have also been allotted seats. The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) [LJP(R)], led by Chirag Paswan, will contest 29 seats. The Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) and the Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) will each contest 6 seats.
The seat-sharing agreement was revealed by Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. According to Pradhan, the agreement was reached in a cordial atmosphere, and it has been welcomed by workers and leaders of all NDA parties. BJP State president Dr. Dilip Jaiswal also confirmed that a formal agreement regarding seat distribution had been reached.
The announcement comes after a series of meetings and discussions among NDA leaders in Delhi and Patna. Senior BJP leaders, including Home Minister Amit Shah and party president J.P. Nadda, were involved in the deliberations. Prior to the announcement, BJP leaders held separate and joint meetings with NDA allies, including the Rashtriya Lok Morcha, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), and Hindustani Awam Morcha. Nityanand Rai, a senior BJP leader, also met with Chirag Paswan in New Delhi.
While the NDA has finalized its seat-sharing arrangement, the opposition "Mahagathbandhan" is still in discussions. Lalu Prasad and Tejashwi Yadav of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) are currently in Delhi and are expected to meet with Congress leaders.
Amid delays in the Grand Alliance's seat-sharing announcement, the CPI(M) has directed its two sitting MLAs to file their nominations. There are reports that left parties are upset over the prolonged delay in finalizing seat distribution.
As the NDA prepares to contest the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, all eyes are now on the "Mahagathbandhan" to see if they can finalize their seat-sharing arrangement and present a united front against the NDA. The election to the 243-member Bihar Assembly will be conducted in two phases.
