PM Modi Praises BJP Workers' "Phenomenal Support" After Crushing Victory in Dadra & Daman Local Elections.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers for their "phenomenal support" following the party's landslide victory in the local elections in the Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. The BJP has secured a sweeping win in the local body polls, winning nearly every seat in the District Panchayat, Municipal Council, and Sarpanch elections.

Taking to social media platform X, PM Modi expressed his gratitude to the voters of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, stating that their support indicates the region's strong connection with the BJP's development agenda. He also commended the BJP Karyakartas (workers) for their efforts at the grassroots level.

The BJP's victory is resounding, with the party securing a near-total dominance in the region. In Daman district, the BJP won 15 out of 16 District Panchayat seats, 14 of 15 Municipal Council seats, and 15 of 16 Sarpanch posts. In Diu district, the BJP achieved a complete sweep, winning all 8 District Panchayat seats. Similarly, in Dadra and Nagar Haveli district, the party bagged 24 out of 26 District Panchayat seats and all 15 Municipal Council seats.

The BJP's IT Cell chief, Amit Malviya, described the outcome as a historic victory, reaffirming the people's unwavering faith in Prime Minister Modi's leadership. He highlighted the BJP's deep organisational presence and the public endorsement of its governance and development model in the Union Territory.

However, prior to the election, the Congress party alleged that the BJP had "hijacked elections" with the help of the Election Commission, claiming that a significant number of their nominations were rejected. According to the Congress, approximately 80% of their nominations were rejected. The BJP, on the other hand, stated that they had won 91 of 122 seats (almost 75%) uncontested in the polls for municipalities, district panchayats, and gram panchayats.

The local body elections are the first since the death of Dadra and Nagar Haveli MP Mohan Delkar in 2022. Delkar, who was an independent MP, had previously quit the Congress and moved to the Janata Dal (United). In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Delkar's wife, Kalaben, won from Dadra and Nagar Haveli on a BJP ticket.
