YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, known for his channel BeerBiceps, is facing a storm of controversy following a joke he made on comedian Samay Raina's show, "India's Got Latent". The remark, deemed obscene by many, has led to severe public criticism, legal action, and even a death threat from former WWE wrestler and actor Saurav Gurjar.
The controversial joke, posed to a contestant on "India's Got Latent," involved a distasteful scenario about the contestant's parents. The question was: "Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once to make it stop forever?". This elicited strong reactions, with many viewers criticizing the joke as inappropriate and offensive.
The backlash quickly escalated, with multiple police complaints filed against Allahbadia in Maharashtra, Assam, and Jaipur. Social media was flooded with condemnations, and the controversy reached the courts. The Supreme Court justices Surya Kant and N.K. Singh, didn't mince words, describing Allahbadia's remarks as "disgusting," "filthy," and "insulting".
Amidst the public outcry, Saurav Gurjar, known for his role in the television series "Mahabharata" and his wrestling career as Sanga, issued a direct and menacing threat to Allahbadia. In a video posted on social media, Gurjar stated, "If I ever come across him, nothing will be able to shield him from me". He expressed his outrage and demanded accountability to prevent similar incidents in the future. Gurjar further added, "If I meet him anywhere, no one can save him from me for what he said on the show".
In response to the death threat and the escalating situation, Ranveer Allahbadia has stated he feels unsafe. While Allahbadia has yet to publicly respond to Saurav Gurjar's threat directly, his lawyer has voiced concerns over escalating death threats and targeted harassment, even mentioning instances where Allahbadia's mother, a doctor, was allegedly confronted and abused. However, the court dismissed these concerns, remarking, "If you can try to gain cheap popularity by using abusive language, then someone issuing threats is also seeking popularity. In fact, the language used in the threats is better than that of your petitioner".
The controversy has sparked a debate about freedom of speech and the limits of humor. While some believe Allahbadia's comments were unacceptable and offensive, others argue that threats of violence are not a justified response. Samay Raina, the host of "India's Got Latent," has removed all related videos from his channel. Allahbadia has also issued an apology.
