Jared McCann's overtime goal lifted the Seattle Kraken to a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday night. With just 3.8 seconds remaining in the extra period, McCann capitalized on a rebound to secure the win for Seattle.
The game was a hard-fought battle, with Matty Beniers opening the scoring for the Kraken at 7:58 of the second period. Beniers' goal, his first of the year, came on the power play, as he tucked in a back pass from Jordan Eberle just inside the right post past Vegas goalie Adin Hill.
Vegas responded in the third period, with Pavel Dorofeyev scoring a power-play goal at 4:11 to tie the game 1-1. Dorofeyev's goal was his league-leading fifth of the season and his fourth with the man advantage. He scored on a shot from the left circle off a pass from Mark Stone.
The game remained tied through the end of regulation, sending it to overtime. Both teams had chances in the extra period, but it was McCann who ultimately came through for the Kraken. With time winding down, Beniers ripped a shot from the left circle that bounced off Hill's pads. McCann was perfectly positioned in front of the crease and fired the rebound past Hill for the game-winning goal. This was McCann's second goal of the year and his 400th career point.
Kraken goalie Joey Daccord was outstanding in the win, making 26 saves, including four in overtime. Hill finished with 20 saves for the Golden Knights.
This marks the Kraken's first 2-0-0 start in team history. For the Golden Knights, each of their first three games has gone beyond regulation. They fell to Los Angeles in a shootout and came from behind to beat San Jose.
