Tommy Fleetwood secured a remarkable victory at the DP World India Championship, clinching the title with a final-round score of 65 at the Delhi Golf Club. The Englishman's impressive performance saw him finish at 22-under-par, two strokes ahead of Japan's Keita Nakajima. This win marks Fleetwood's eighth title on the DP World Tour.
Nakajima, who led by two strokes entering the final round, carded a solid 69 but couldn't match Fleetwood's momentum. Fleetwood started the final day trailing Nakajima, but four consecutive birdies ignited his game, turning the deficit into a two-shot lead. Fleetwood's consistent play and crucial birdies on the 10th and 14th holes allowed him to pull ahead, and a significant 20-foot putt on the 17th sealed his lead.
Other notable performances included Thriston Lawrence, Alex Fitzpatrick, and Shane Lowry, who finished in a tie for third place. Rory McIlroy, making his debut in India, finished in a tie for 26th.
Fleetwood's victory was especially sweet as his son, Frankie, was able to run onto the 18th green to celebrate with him. Fleetwood mentioned that his son had recently expressed that he had never been able to celebrate a win with his father on the 18th green. This win marked the first time Frankie could share that special moment with his father.
This win significantly reshapes Fleetwood's season. Previously ranked 94th, the victory propelled him to 25th in the Race to Dubai, securing his eligibility for the Abu Dhabi Championship and the season-ending Tour Championship in Dubai.
The DP World India Championship, with a $4 million purse, was the most lucrative golf tournament ever held in India. Fleetwood's victory earned him $680,000. The tournament marked the DP World Tour's return to the Delhi Golf Club since 2016.
