‘Saw a hand on road’: Eye Witnesses Recount Moments After Delhi Blast
New Delhi, November 10, 2025 – A high-intensity explosion ripped through a car parked near the Red Fort metro station in Delhi this evening, killing at least eight people and injuring several others. The blast, which occurred around 6:30 PM, triggered a massive fire that engulfed multiple vehicles and shattered windows in the vicinity. A high alert has been sounded across the city.
Eyewitnesses at the scene recounted moments of chaos and horror in the aftermath of the explosion. "I was at the Gurudwara when I heard a strong sound. We couldn't make out what it was, it was that loud," said one eyewitness. Another witness described a grim scene: "I saw a hand on the road… several cars [were] damaged". The force of the explosion was such that it was heard in nearby buildings of the congested area.
Videos and images circulating online and broadcast by news channels showed flames erupting from the vehicles and a large crowd gathered around the scene. Burnt vehicles and debris littered the area outside Gate No. 1 of the Lal Quila metro station.
"A call was received regarding an explosion in a car near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, after which three to four vehicles also caught fire and sustained damage,” stated the Delhi Fire Department (DFS). Seven fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames. Firefighters managed to contain the blaze before it could spread to the metro entrance or nearby shops.
Delhi Police have cordoned off the area and a team from the Delhi Police Special Cell is currently investigating the cause of the blast. A team of NSG commandoes, the country's chief counter-terrorism force, has also been dispatched to the site. According to Sanjay Tyagi, a spokesman for Delhi Police, they "are investigating the cause of the blast".
While the nature of the explosion is yet to be determined, initial reports indicate that the blast occurred in a car parked near the metro station. The Red Fort metro station is located on a busy stretch between Delhi Gate and Kashmere Gate, opposite the road leading to Chandni Chowk, a typically crowded area.
Entry and exit from Gate nos. 1 & 4 of the Lal Quila (Red Fort) metro station have been restricted. However, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has confirmed that metro services are operating normally across the rest of the network.
The incident has triggered a high alert in the capital, with security tightened across the city. The Red Fort area is considered a sensitive zone due to its proximity to key government buildings and historical sites.
