Veteran actor Dharmendra is currently under observation at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai, prompting an outpouring of concern and well-wishes from fans and the film fraternity. His wife, Hema Malini, took to social media on Monday evening to update the public and request prayers for his speedy recovery.
"I thank everyone for their concern about Dharam ji, who is in hospital for observation," Hema Malini wrote on her Instagram account. "He is being continuously monitored, and we are all with him. I request you all to pray for his welfare and speedy recovery". She also shared a throwback picture of Dharmendra, capturing his signature laugh.
The 89-year-old actor was admitted to the hospital on November 1, 2025, reportedly after experiencing breathlessness. While initial reports suggested he was stable, recent updates have raised concerns. Some sources claimed that the actor was placed on ventilator support in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for close monitoring. However, these reports have been refuted by sources close to the family.
A statement from Dharmendra's family indicated that he is stable and under observation. "Further comments and updates will be shared as available. We request everyone to pray for his speedy recovery and respect the family's privacy," the statement read. Sunny Deol was seen arriving at the hospital with his sons to check on his father.
Dismissing the rumors of Dharmendra being on a ventilator, Sunny Deol's team clarified that he is recovering and there is nothing to worry about. A source close to the family confirmed that he has been hospitalized but is not on a ventilator, emphasizing that he is recuperating.
Hema Malini was also spotted at the hospital, further fueling concerns and prayers from fans. In an interview, she expressed hope for his speedy recovery and gratitude for the concern shown by well-wishers.
Dharmendra's recent hospitalization follows a prior admission to the same hospital on November 1, 2025, which was described as a routine check-up. At the time, his team stated that there was no cause for concern, explaining that he frequently visits the hospital for routine medical tests. "Given that he is 89, daily travel can be tiring at this age. Hence, he himself chose to stay at the hospital and finish all the tests at once instead of commuting back and forth each day," a source explained.
Despite facing minor health issues in recent years, including cataract surgery, Dharmendra has remained active in the film industry. He was last seen in the 2024 film 'Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya' and is slated to appear in 'Ikkis', directed by Sriram Raghavan, scheduled for release on December 25, 2025.
