Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated sharply following a series of drone attacks, with a notable incident occurring at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on May 8, 2025. The stadium, located near the Pakistan Army headquarters in Rawalpindi, was struck by a drone. The incident happened hours before a scheduled Pakistan Super League (PSL) match between Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings, raising serious security concerns.

The drone strike caused damage to a restaurant near the stadium, injuring two civilians. Authorities have sealed off the area to investigate the origin of the drone and whether it carried any payload. The incident has led to increased security measures and triggered an emergency meeting by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to discuss the future of the PSL tournament. Ultimately, the PCB decided to relocate the remaining PSL matches to Karachi.

This event is part of a larger series of escalating conflicts between India and Pakistan. Pakistan's military claims to have shot down 25 Indian drones, while India reports thwarting Pakistani drone and missile attacks aimed at its military installations. India has confirmed conducting strikes on Pakistani air defense systems, describing it as a "proportionate response" to Pakistan's attempted attacks on 15 targets within India. These targets included areas in northern and western India such as Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, and Chandigarh.

The escalating tensions have had broader impacts, including panic selling in the stock markets. The Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket match between Mumbai and Punjab, initially scheduled for Dharamshala, has been moved to Gujarat due to the closure of the Dharamshala airport.

The international community has also responded to the escalating situation. The U.S. consulate in Lahore has advised its citizens to either leave the country or seek shelter. The European Union has condemned a terror attack in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, emphasizing the right of every state to protect its citizens lawfully.

These recent events mark a significant escalation in the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, with potentially far-reaching consequences for regional stability and international relations.
