Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated sharply, with both sides trading accusations of attacks and counterattacks across the Line of Control (LoC) and the international border. The Indian Army has released the first official video showing the destruction of a Pakistani military post in retaliation to what it says were ceasefire violations and drone attacks by Pakistan.
The release of the video follows a night of heightened activity on the border, with the Indian Army stating that Pakistan's armed forces launched multiple attacks using drones and other munitions along the entire western border on the intervening night of May 8 and 9, 2025. According to the Indian Army, Pakistani troops also resorted to numerous ceasefire violations along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian military claims these drone attacks were effectively repulsed and that a "befitting reply" was given to the ceasefire violations.
The video released by the Indian Army shows a projectile striking and destroying a structure. While the army has not provided specific details about the location or nature of the targeted post, it said the footage is linked to its response to Pakistan's "grave provocation". Some reports suggest that anti-tank guided missiles were used to strike the military posts of Pakistan across the LoC.
In response to the video and the Indian claims, Pakistan's Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has denied that Pakistan launched attacks on targets in Indian-administered Kashmir, calling the claims "baseless" and questioning the footage published by Indian media. Pakistan's military has also accused India of firing attack drones into Pakistani territory, resulting in civilian casualties. They claim to have downed 25 Indian drones over its territory.
The recent escalation follows a deadly attack in Indian-administered Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22, which India blamed on Pakistan. Pakistan has denied any involvement in the attack. Since then, tensions have been steadily rising, with both sides accusing each other of cross-border violations and terrorist activities.
Amid the escalating tensions, there have been reports of casualties on both sides. Since India launched missiles on Wednesday that it said targeted "terrorist camps" in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, at least 48 deaths have been reported. Pakistani mortar shelling has also reportedly killed a soldier and several civilians.
The situation has led to widespread disruption in the region. Blackouts were enforced in Jammu, Srinagar, and several other cities. In Punjab, a total blackout was enforced until 5 am. About 21 airports in northern India are shut till May 10.
Amid the ongoing conflict, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has voiced concerns that tensions between India and Pakistan could escalate into a "hot conflict". He has backed calls for an "international investigation" into the Pahalgam attack. Pakistan's ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, has stated that there has been contact with India at the national security level but called for de-escalation in "actions" and "rhetoric" to stop. The US Secretary of State has also spoken to India and Pakistan, urging immediate de-escalation.
