The Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) from the Army, Navy, and Air Force conducted a joint press briefing today amidst heightened tensions at the Line of Control. This briefing follows strong messaging from the government regarding ceasefire violations by Pakistan.
Tensions have recently escalated, with Pakistan repeatedly violating ceasefire agreements. These violations included targeting civilian infrastructure and populated areas, as well as military installations. India has responded assertively to these provocations. The situation has been described as no less than a state of war.
Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai stated that recent strikes on nine terror hubs resulted in over 100 terrorists killed, including high-value targets involved in the IC814 hijacking and the Pulwama blast. He added that Pakistan's subsequent violation of the Line of Control led to a rattled response, with civilian areas and religious sites, including Gurdwaras, being hit, causing loss of life. The Indian Air Force played a significant role in these strikes, and the Indian Navy provided precision munitions.
The Indian Armed Forces recently launched 'Operation Sindoor,' targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, from where attacks against India have been planned and directed. The strikes were focused and measured, specifically targeting terrorist infrastructure while avoiding Pakistani military facilities. This operation was initiated in response to the barbaric Pahalgam terrorist attack, in which many Indian and one Nepali citizen were murdered.
Multiple attempts at aerial intrusion were made by Pakistan, using drones and conducting shelling with heavy caliber guns, targeting civilian infrastructure. The Indian armed forces successfully neutralized most of these threats. However, some damage to equipment and personnel occurred at air force stations. Pakistan also attempted to target an airbase station in Punjab with a high-speed missile.
Following these events, US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, stating that the talks had been mediated by the United States. However, shortly after agreeing to the ceasefire, Pakistan violated the agreement with shellings and air raids in several border districts.
Despite the ceasefire breaches, India has conveyed a clear message that it will only engage with Pakistan through military channels. The government has seemingly closed the door on diplomatic engagement, except through the DGMOs. The DGMOs of both countries were scheduled to have talks.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the army complete authority to retaliate to any further attacks. Every misadventure by Pakistan will be met with strength, and any future escalation will invite a decisive response.
