India Inc. is increasingly turning to astrologers, not just for personal guidance, but also for business decisions. This trend, while seemingly unconventional, reflects a deep-rooted cultural belief in astrology and its potential to influence outcomes. From startups to established corporations, businesses are consulting astrologers on various aspects, including auspicious dates for product launches, brand naming, and even investment strategies.

Several factors contribute to this growing reliance on crystal gazers. Firstly, in a rapidly changing and often unpredictable business environment, companies seek any possible advantage. Astrology, with its promise of predicting future trends and identifying favorable opportunities, offers a sense of control and reassurance. Secondly, India has a long-standing tradition of incorporating astrology into daily life. It is deeply embedded in the cultural fabric, and many business leaders have grown up with the belief that celestial bodies can influence human affairs. This cultural acceptance makes it easier for companies to integrate astrological consultations into their decision-making processes.

The types of advice sought by companies vary depending on their specific needs and challenges. For startups, astrologers might be consulted on the optimal time to launch their business, the suitability of potential partners, and strategies for attracting investors. Established companies may seek guidance on major investment decisions, expansion plans, and navigating market fluctuations. Some companies even consult astrologers on employee hiring and team composition, believing that certain individuals are better suited for specific roles based on their astrological charts.

The rise of online astrology platforms has further fueled this trend. These platforms provide easy access to a wide range of astrologers, making it more convenient for businesses to seek consultations. The online platforms offer services like tarot card reading and numerology, but astrology consultations make up a large portion of their income. Astrotalk, an online platform founded in 2017, has seen its profits rise significantly and expects to generate substantial revenue by the end of financial year 2024. This accessibility has also led to a surge in the number of astrologers on these platforms, including those from smaller cities, who are now able to reach a wider audience.

However, the practice of consulting astrologers for business decisions is not without its critics. Many business analysts and financial experts caution against relying solely on astrological predictions, emphasizing the importance of data-driven decision-making and sound business principles. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has even warned investors against being guided by astrological predictions on share prices and market movements. They argue that astrology is not a science and that its predictions are often vague and open to interpretation.

Despite the skepticism, the trend of India Inc. consulting crystal gazers continues to grow. As businesses navigate an increasingly complex and competitive landscape, they are seeking guidance from various sources, including astrology. Whether this practice is based on genuine belief, cultural tradition, or simply a desire for an extra edge, it is clear that astrology plays a significant role in the Indian business world.
