The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) has officially commenced the registration process for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2025 undergraduate admissions counselling. The registration window is open from May 17, 2025, 4:00 PM and will continue until May 21, 2025, 5:00 PM. This process is for admissions to the five-year integrated undergraduate law programs offered by the participating NLUs. The first allotment list is scheduled to be released on May 26, 2025, at 10:00 AM, marking the beginning of a three-round seat allocation process.
Eligible candidates who have received invitations via email, SMS, and the CLAT 2025 portal can participate in the counselling process. To confirm eligibility, candidates must log in to their CLAT accounts and complete the two-step registration: updating NLU preferences and paying the counselling registration fee. Candidates who have already registered and paid the fee do not need to register again but can update their NLU preferences before the deadline.
The registration fee is ₹30,000 for General category candidates and ₹20,000 for ST/SC/OBC/BC/EWS/PwD category candidates. The fee is refundable under certain conditions outlined by the Consortium, such as if no seat is allotted or if the candidate exits before the deadline. A full refund will be processed for those who paid but were found ineligible based on the updated results.
The CLAT 2025 counseling schedule was initially delayed due to challenges to the CLAT results in the Delhi High Court, which led to revisions in the answer key. The Supreme Court intervened, and the revised results were announced on May 17, 2025. The Consortium has clarified that candidates who registered for CLAT Counselling earlier do not need to re-register. However, those who have not registered must do so on or before May 21, 2025.
During the counselling process, candidates have options to choose from, including "freeze," "float," and "exit." If a candidate is satisfied with the allotted seat, they can "freeze" it. The "float" option allows candidates to be considered for higher preferences in subsequent rounds if they don't get their first preference. Candidates can also "exit" the counselling process if they wish to withdraw.
Candidates must provide bank account details for refunds, if any. After seat allotment, candidates can accept, upgrade, or exit the process. Those who accept a seat must complete admission formalities by paying the fee and submitting the required documents to confirm admission.
The Consortium of NLUs conducts allotment rounds based on merit, preferences, and seat availability. Candidates can access the allotment list under the counselling section of the official website after logging in with their credentials.
