BRS MLC K. Kavitha has confirmed writing a letter to her father, BRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), which was subsequently leaked to the media, causing considerable discussion in Telangana's political circles. Speaking to reporters on Friday, May 23, 2025, upon her return from the United States, Kavitha acknowledged the letter's existence and expressed her dismay over its unauthorized release.
Kavitha stated that the letter, penned two weeks prior, was intended as feedback on the party and did not serve any personal agenda. She emphasized that the points she raised were reflective of widely shared sentiments within the party. In the past, she has provided similar feedback to the party leadership, and also brought attention to internal conspiracies. Kavitha did not express any personal resentment. Her main concern was to initiate a discussion regarding the circumstances surrounding the letter's leak and who might be responsible.
Referring to her father, KCR, Kavitha remarked, "KCR is god. But some devils have surrounded him." She suggested that certain shortcomings within the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) needed to be addressed to fortify the party's position. While she refrained from commenting on her political future, she affirmed that KCR remained her leader.
The leaked letter, written in both Telugu and English, contained Kavitha's observations on the BRS's recent Silver Jubilee public meeting held in Warangal. She noted KCR's brief speech, which led to speculations about a potential alliance with the BJP. Kavitha felt that KCR should have more forcefully criticized the BJP, particularly given her own experiences. She also pointed out KCR's silence on key issues such as reservations for backward classes, Scheduled Castes categorisation, and the Waqf Amendment Act, as well as the omission of Urdu from his address, which drew negative feedback.
In her letter, Kavitha expressed concern that some grassroots-level BRS members were beginning to see the BJP as a viable alternative, especially given the perception that the current Congress government had lost public support. She also noted that the party's decision not to contest the recent MLC elections had fueled speculation about a possible political alignment with the BJP. She urged KCR to provide specific programs or guidelines to address the current political scenario, suggesting a plenary session to gather opinions from cadres.
The emergence of the letter has stirred speculation about potential disciplinary action against Kavitha, possibly including suspension from the party. Some sources suggest that the leak may have been orchestrated by KCR's family members while Kavitha was abroad, with the intention of setting the stage for such action. However, it's also speculated that Kavitha anticipated the letter's leak and was prepared for it, using it as a means to express her concerns and potentially challenge the party's direction.
Adding to the internal strife, there are reports of a growing tussle between Kavitha and her brother, KTR, over leadership within the BRS. Kavitha's recent efforts to champion the cause of OBCs and her campaign for "Samajika Telangana" have reportedly caused embarrassment to KTR, who is seen as the party's working president and potential successor to KCR.
As the BRS grapples with internal dissent and questions about its future direction, the leaked letter and Kavitha's statements have brought these issues into sharp focus, raising questions about the party's strategies and leadership dynamics.
