Akshay Kumar's recent public appearance in Delhi has sparked a flurry of reactions from fans, especially in light of Paresh Rawal's departure from "Hera Pheri 3." The actor, spotted at the Delhi airport on May 24, 2025, seemed to maintain a composed demeanor amidst the ongoing controversy. Dressed casually in a striped light-blue t-shirt, denim jeans, and aviator sunglasses, Kumar didn't engage with the paparazzi but warmly greeted fans. However, some observers noted a possible sense of unease in his expressions, leading to speculation that the "Hera Pheri 3" situation might be weighing on him.
The "Hera Pheri 3" project, which was eagerly anticipated by fans as a nostalgic comeback, has been marred by controversy following Paresh Rawal's sudden exit. Rawal's departure has reportedly led to financial repercussions for the film, with Akshay Kumar's production house, Cape of Good Films, filing a lawsuit against Rawal seeking compensation of ₹25 crore.
Director Priyadarshan revealed that Akshay Kumar was deeply affected and became emotional, wondering why Rawal made the decision. In an interview, Priyadarshan stated that Kumar "had tears in his eyes" upon learning of Rawal's decision. He also shared that the team had recently shot a promo at the Indian Premier League (IPL), and everything seemed perfectly in order at that time. Priyadarshan further mentioned that Akshay bought the franchise's rights after everyone unanimously agreed to do 'Hera Pheri 3'.
Adding to the financial strain, legal representatives for Akshay Kumar's production house have stated that Rawal's exit caused "severe legal consequences" and "reputational damage" to the film, the committed actors, and the franchise. They also highlighted the disappointment among the audience who have been eagerly awaiting the film for nearly two decades. According to reports, Paresh Rawal has returned the signing amount of ₹11 lakh, along with 15% interest, to Akshay Kumar's production house. Sources indicate that Rawal's total fees for the project were finalized at ₹15 crore, but a clause in his contract stipulated that the balance amount of ₹14.89 crore would only be paid one month after the film's release. Rawal reportedly objected to this clause, as the film's release was not expected until late 2026 or 2027, meaning he would have had to wait nearly two years for the full payment.
Suniel Shetty has expressed his disappointment and hoped for a resolution between Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal. He conveyed his wish to avoid any animosity between the two actors, even if the film doesn't materialize.
Despite the controversy, Akshay Kumar is scheduled to begin promoting his upcoming film, "Housefull 5," set to release on June 6, 2025.
