Parliament is set to convene for its Monsoon Session from July 21 to August 12, 2025, as announced by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju. This session follows a recess of over three months after the Budget Session, which concluded on April 4, 2025. Both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha are scheduled to reconvene on July 21 at 11 am.
Several key legislative matters are expected to be addressed during the Monsoon Session. One significant item on the agenda is the potential motion for the impeachment of Justice Yashwant Varma of the Allahabad High Court. Additionally, recent events, such as Operation Sindoor, are likely to be discussed, potentially leading to heated debates and discussions within the House.
Operation Sindoor, reportedly conducted by the Indian Armed Forces, targeted multiple terror hotbeds in Pakistan linked to various militant groups, including Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizb-ul-Mujahideen. This operation was reportedly a response to a terror attack in Pahalgam.
During the Budget Session, which spanned from January 31 to April 4, both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were productive, functioning for 26 days. The Lok Sabha's productivity was approximately 118%, while the Rajya Sabha's stood at around 119%. In that session, 16 Bills were passed by the Lok Sabha and 14 Bills were passed or returned by the Rajya Sabha. A total of 11 Bills were introduced, with the Income Tax Bill, 2025 being referred to a Select Committee of Lok Sabha. Key bills passed included the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, the Immigration and Foreigners Bill, 2025, the Boilers Bill, 2024, and the Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill, 2024.
The upcoming Monsoon Session is expected to be dynamic, with discussions on crucial legislative matters and recent events likely to shape the parliamentary proceedings.
