Madhya Pradesh is poised to significantly boost its manufacturing capabilities with the establishment of a Rs 1,800 crore rolling stock plant. The foundation stone ceremony for the "Brahma" Greenfield Rolling Stock Manufacturing Plant is scheduled for August 10.
Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), a public sector company, is undertaking this project to expand its production of metro rail coaches and rolling stock. The facility will be located in Umaria village, Goharganj tehsil, Raisen district. The Madhya Pradesh state cabinet has already approved the land allocation for the project, which aims to boost the production of rolling stock, rail, and metro coaches in the region.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has emphasized the importance of this project. During a visit to Bengaluru, he officially handed over the land allotment documents to BEML. CM Yadav stated that the plant will also manufacture Vande Bharat coaches, similar to BEML's Bengaluru operations.
The new BEML facility in Madhya Pradesh is expected to accelerate the production of metro and high-speed rail coaches, supporting major infrastructure projects across India. It will also promote self-reliance in transport manufacturing and generate local employment, spurring regional economic development. The plant is expected to improve delivery timelines for large-scale metro and high-speed rail contracts, aligning with India's growing urban transit demands.
The allocation of 60 hectares (148 acres) of land in Umaria marks a major milestone in Madhya Pradesh's industrial development. The chosen site in Umeria offers logistical and operational advantages, being well-connected by rail and road networks. Proximity to Bhopal and other industrial corridors enhances accessibility for raw materials, skilled labor, and distribution channels, making it an ideal location for such a large-scale infrastructure initiative.
This project aligns with the Indian government's vision to enhance railway modernization, foster regional industrialization, and create employment opportunities in Madhya Pradesh. The state has been actively pursuing policies that ease industrial clearances, offer incentives, and create a conducive ecosystem for infrastructure and manufacturing companies.
In related news, Madhya Pradesh has achieved its highest-ever exports of Rs 70,256 crore in the financial year 2024-25, marking a 6 percent increase. Pharmaceuticals, engineering goods, and soy-based agricultural products have collectively boosted the state's global competitiveness. This growth has elevated Madhya Pradesh's ranking to the 11th position in national exports. The US continues to be a critical market for Madhya Pradesh, especially for pharmaceuticals and machinery.
