The marriage between Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor and businessman Sunjay Kapur, and their subsequent, highly publicized divorce, remains a topic of discussion years after their separation. Adding to the drama, veteran actor Randhir Kapoor, Karisma's father, had openly expressed his disapproval of the union, even going so far as to call Sunjay a "third class man".

Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur tied the knot in 2003 in a grand ceremony at the Kapoor family's residence. However, the relationship deteriorated over time, leading to a separation in 2014 and a finalized divorce in 2016. "Everyone knows our credentials. We are Kapoors. We don't need to run after anyone's money," he asserted.

Sunjay Kapur passed away on June 12, 2025, reportedly due to a rare allergic reaction. His death has brought renewed attention to his marriage with Karisma and Randhir Kapoor's past statements. In the years following her divorce, when asked about Karisma's potential remarriage, Randhir Kapoor maintained that her happiness was paramount. He stated in a 2017 interview that Karisma was "very well settled and happy" and that if she planned to marry again, she would always have his blessings. He also described Karisma as an excellent mother who doted on her children and seemed content with her life as it was.
