As of June 9, 2025, fuel prices across major Indian cities remain largely unchanged. This stability follows a period of relative calm in the global crude oil market and the government's continued efforts to maintain stable prices for consumers.

In Delhi, petrol is retailing at ₹94.77 per litre, while diesel costs ₹87.67 per litre. Mumbai residents are paying ₹103.50 for a litre of petrol and ₹90.03 for diesel. Chennai sees petrol priced at ₹100.80 per litre and diesel at ₹92.39 per litre. Kolkata has petrol at ₹105.41 per litre and diesel at ₹92.02 per litre. These prices reflect the rates at which fuel is being sold as of today, June 9, 2025.

The stability in fuel prices can be attributed to several factors. Firstly, global crude oil prices have been relatively steady in recent months. Brent crude, the global benchmark, is currently trading around $66.42 per barrel. Secondly, the Indian government's decision to cut excise duties on petrol and diesel in May 2022 has helped to cushion the impact of rising international prices.

It's important to note that fuel prices in India are dynamic and are revised daily at 6 AM by oil marketing companies like Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum. This dynamic pricing mechanism, introduced in June 2017, ensures that changes in international crude oil prices and foreign exchange rates are quickly reflected in domestic fuel prices, promoting transparency and curbing speculative practices.

Several factors influence these price revisions, including international crude oil prices, the exchange rate between the rupee and the US dollar, geopolitical risks, supply chain issues, and domestic conditions such as changes in excise duty and state taxes. Gross refining margins and dealer commissions are also factored into the calculation.

For consumers looking to stay updated on fuel prices, oil marketing companies provide various resources. Smartphone users can download mobile apps like Fuel@IOC, Smart Drive (BPCL), and My HPCL to track daily price changes.

Looking at regional variations, Tamil Nadu sees petrol priced at ₹101.74 per liter, a figure that has remained consistent throughout June 2025. In Uttar Pradesh, petrol is நிலையான at ₹95.03 per liter, also unchanged recently. These prices reflect the diverse taxation and operational costs across different states.

While the current stability in fuel prices is a welcome relief for consumers, it is essential to monitor global crude oil market trends and government policies, which can significantly impact future price revisions. The interplay of these factors will determine the direction of petrol and diesel prices in the coming days and weeks.
