In a tragic incident in Patna, a woman constable lost her life, and two other police personnel sustained injuries after being hit by a speeding Scorpio SUV during a routine vehicle check. The incident occurred on Atal Path, near the Srikrishna Puri locality, in the early hours of Thursday, June 12, 2025.

According to reports, officers from the Srikrishna Puri police station were conducting vehicle checks on Atal Path when the speeding Scorpio crashed into their patrol team. The team included a Sub-Inspector, an Assistant Sub-Inspector, and a woman constable. While the police team was examining a car, the speeding Scorpio approached and rammed into the vehicle being checked, resulting in severe injuries to all three officers.

Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Awkash Kumar stated that the injured personnel were immediately taken to a nearby hospital. However, the woman constable, identified as Komal Kumari, succumbed to her injuries during treatment. The other two officers are currently receiving treatment, and their condition is reported to be stable. Komal was a native of Nalanda district.

The driver of the Scorpio fled the scene immediately after the accident. However, police have arrested two passengers who were in the vehicle at the time of the incident and have seized the vehicle. Authorities have launched a search operation to apprehend the absconding driver.

SSP Awkash Kumar said, "The incident happened while our officers were on duty conducting vehicle checks. The speeding Scorpio hit from behind, injuring three officers. One of them, the woman constable, later died in hospital. Two others are under treatment, and we have detained two occupants of the car. Efforts are on to identify and arrest the driver.” He added that an investigation is underway.

The incident has raised concerns about road safety and rash driving in the city. According to an official, the incident occurred at around 12:30 AM during a special night vehicle checking campaign aimed at curbing criminal activities in the city. It has also been noted that the Scorpio was travelling at an estimated speed of 90 kmph from the Digha side and was signaled to stop for checking by the police team. Instead of stopping, the driver rammed into the police personnel.

The presence of a political party's flag on the vehicle has raised eyebrows, suggesting possible political connections with the ruling coalition.
