Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of the Indian cricket team, has delivered an inspiring message to Karun Nair, who is making a comeback to the Test squad after more than seven years. This comes as the Indian team, under the leadership of new captain Shubman Gill, prepares to face England in a five-Test match series commencing on June 20 in Leeds.

The series marks the beginning of a new era for the Indian Test team, especially after the recent retirements of veteran players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin. In light of these changes, Gambhir's role as head coach becomes even more crucial in guiding the team forward.

In a video released by the BCCI, Gambhir addressed the team, extending a warm welcome to the new faces and acknowledging Nair's remarkable comeback. He specifically lauded Nair's "never die attitude" and "never giving up attitude," emphasizing how these qualities earned him a place back in the team and serve as an inspiration to the entire squad. Gambhir highlighted the difficulty of comebacks, especially after such a long hiatus, and praised Nair's phenomenal performance over the past year, which paved the way for his return.

Karun Nair last played a Test match in 2017 and has forced his way back into contention with consistent performances in the domestic circuit. Nair recently reinforced his claim with a double century in the India A vs England Lions series. His inclusion adds depth and experience to the team's batting lineup.

Besides Nair, Gambhir also welcomed Sai Sudharsan and Arshdeep Singh, who received their maiden Test call-ups. He commended Sudharsan's impressive performances in the IPL and domestic cricket, wishing him a successful red-ball career. Arshdeep Singh, known for his contributions in white-ball cricket, was encouraged to make his mark with the red ball as well.

Addressing the team further, Gambhir also congratulated Shubman Gill on being appointed as the Test captain and Rishabh Pant, who is now part of the leadership group.

Gambhir emphasized the importance of adaptability and a fighting spirit in the challenging English conditions, charting a roadmap alongside bowling coach Morne Morkel during a team meeting. He urged the team to see the series as a "phenomenal opportunity to do something special for the country," despite the absence of experienced players. Gambhir stressed the significance of hunger, passion, and commitment, encouraging the team to step out of their comfort zones and fight in every session, hour, and day to make the tour a memorable one.

Shubman Gill echoed Gambhir's sentiments, motivating his teammates to thrive under pressure and approach each net session and practice match with purpose. He urged them not to focus on merely surviving but on finding their game and preparing to perform when put under pressure.

The five-match Test series against England is scheduled to take place at various venues including Headingley in Leeds, Edgbaston in Birmingham, Lord's and The Oval in London, and Old Trafford in Manchester.
