The tragic crash of Air India Flight AI171 near Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport on Thursday has sent shockwaves through the nation, with Bollywood celebrities expressing their grief and offering condolences to the victims and their families. The flight, bound for London, crashed shortly after takeoff, prompting immediate reactions from prominent figures like Sunny Deol and Parineeti Chopra, who conveyed their devastation and prayers via social media.

Sunny Deol, known for his powerful on-screen presence, shared his heartfelt sentiments on X (formerly Twitter), stating he was "Devastated by the news of the plane crash in Ahmedabad." He further extended his prayers "with all my heart for survivors," hoping they would be found and receive the necessary care. Deol also expressed his condolences for those who lost their lives, praying they "rest in peace," and wishing strength for their families during this "unimaginable time."

Parineeti Chopra, echoing the sentiments of sorrow and empathy, wrote, "Can't imagine the pain of the family members of the ill-fated Air India flight today." The Air India flight AI 171, carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport. According to the Gujarat State Police Control Room, the aircraft went down near the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport. Initial reports indicate that thick plumes of smoke were seen at the accident site, and fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Other Bollywood personalities also joined in expressing their shock and grief. Riteish Deshmukh conveyed he was "Absolutely heartbroken and in shock" upon hearing the news. He extended his heartfelt sympathies to the passengers, their families, and everyone affected, holding them in his thoughts and prayers. Randeep Hooda shared similar sentiments, saying he was "Heartbreaking to hear about the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad" and offered his thoughts and prayers to all those affected, hoping for survivors and strength for the rescue teams. Sonu Sood simply wrote, "Prayers for Air India flight that crashed in Ahmedabad after take off to London."

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reportedly spoken with Gujarat's Chief Minister, Home Minister, and Police Commissioner to assess the situation and assured them of full support from the Central government in rescue and relief operations.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has confirmed the presence of 242 people onboard, including the crew. Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was also reported to be among the passengers. Air India has released a statement acknowledging the incident, stating, "Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad–London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today, 12 June 2025. At this moment, we are ascertaining the details.”
