The NHL rumor mill is churning with activity as teams gear up for the offseason. Several teams, including the New York Rangers, Anaheim Ducks, Edmonton Oilers, and Buffalo Sabres, are at the forefront of these discussions, with potential trades and roster adjustments in the works.

The New York Rangers are seemingly embarking on a new chapter, having traded veteran winger Chris Kreider to the Anaheim Ducks. The move, which sees Kreider waive his no-trade clause, is primarily aimed at creating cap space for the Rangers. In return for Kreider and a fourth-round pick, the Ducks are sending prospect Carey Terrance and a third-round pick to New York. Anaheim will absorb the entirety of Kreider's $6.5 million cap hit for the next two seasons. General Manager Chris Drury is reportedly working the phones to bring in youth, speed, and snarl to the Rangers roster. With eyes on the stacked 2026 free agent class, New York is expected to be aggressive on the trade market this summer. Goaltender Igor Shesterkin, defenseman Adam Fox, and left winger Artemi Panarin are considered untouchable, but the organization is reportedly open to discussions about everyone else. Defenseman K'Andre Miller and left winger Alexis Lafreniere could garner significant interest from other teams. The Rangers have also been linked to several trade targets, including Mason McTavish (C, Anaheim Ducks), Shane Pinto (C, Ottawa Senators), Martin Nečas (RW, Colorado Avalanche), JJ Peterka (RW, Buffalo Sabres), and Bowen Byram (LD, Buffalo Sabres).

The Anaheim Ducks, on the other hand, are looking to improve their roster and are expected to spend aggressively this offseason to meet the NHL's salary cap floor. Acquiring Kreider is a significant step towards reaching that target. The Ducks are also reportedly open to moving center Mason McTavish, who is drawing interest from the Rangers.

Meanwhile, the Edmonton Oilers are reportedly considering lineup changes, potentially as they navigate through the Stanley Cup playoffs. Details on the specific changes remain scarce, but it suggests the Oilers are actively seeking ways to optimize their performance.

The Buffalo Sabres are also generating buzz, particularly regarding defenseman Bowen Byram. After a promising start to his career, Byram's development has seemingly stagnated, and the Sabres are reportedly fielding offers for him. A potential one-for-one swap involving K'Andre Miller of the Rangers could provide both defensemen with a fresh start. JJ Peterka is another Sabre who might be on the move.
