Following complaints regarding the inadequate quality of transportation provided to students evacuated from Iran, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has stepped in to ensure better arrangements. The students, who were studying at Urmia Medical University in Iran, were evacuated as part of India's 'Operation Sindhu' and arrived in Delhi after transiting through Armenia and Doha.

Upon reaching Delhi, the students expressed their gratitude to the Indian government for their evacuation from the conflict-torn region. However, their appreciation was quickly followed by disappointment as they assessed the buses arranged by the Jammu and Kashmir government to transport them from Delhi to their homes in the Union Territory. The students found the buses to be uncomfortable and unsuitable for a long journey after already enduring days of travel and tension. Some students also pointed out that they were not provided airport transportation like students from other states and were asked to travel in SRTC buses.

Responding swiftly to the students' concerns, Omar Abdullah's office took cognizance of the situation and coordinated with the Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (JKRTC) to arrange "proper deluxe buses" for the students. The Chief Minister's Office made the announcement via a post on X, stating that the Resident Commissioner had been tasked with ensuring that the JKRTC provides suitable deluxe buses. Abdullah also shared the post from his official handle, signalling his personal commitment to addressing the concerns.

This intervention aims to alleviate the hardship faced by the students, most of whom hail from Jammu and Kashmir. As many as 90 students from Jammu and Kashmir were among the 110 people evacuated from war-affected Iran. After being rescued from a conflict zone, these students were understandably exhausted and distressed. Providing them with comfortable and reliable transportation for the final leg of their journey home is a crucial step in ensuring their well-being.

The prompt response from Omar Abdullah's office highlights the importance of addressing the needs and concerns of citizens, especially during times of crisis. By arranging for deluxe buses, the administration is not only providing practical assistance but also sending a message of care and support to the students and their families.

The evacuation operation and the subsequent arrangement of transportation underscore the Indian government's commitment to ensuring the safety and welfare of its citizens abroad. While the initial bus arrangements fell short of expectations, the swift action taken by Omar Abdullah demonstrates a willingness to rectify the situation and provide the necessary support to those in need.
