Adah Sharma has addressed the negativity and criticism surrounding "The Kerala Story" winning two National Awards at the 71st National Film Awards. The film, in which Sharma played the lead role, won Best Director for Sudipto Sen and Best Cinematography for Prasantanu Mohapatra.

Sharma expressed feeling "blessed" by the recognition and emphasized the film's purpose of giving a voice to the voiceless. She stated that it is her responsibility to share the stories of the victims through the film, which is based on real-life incidents. Sharma revealed that she has met around 25 girls who experienced the horrors depicted in the film and that the movie is still a diluted version of what they experienced in reality.

Amidst the praise, the film has also faced significant backlash and criticism from industry figures and audiences, with some labeling it as "shameful" and "politically motivated". Sharma staunchly defended the film, asserting that it spoke the truth. She dismissed claims of political motivation, emphasizing that the film focuses on the plight of women who were trafficked, brainwashed, and coerced into becoming terrorists. She stated, "There is no mention of any political leader or party. For me, it has been a story of girls who are trafficked, brainwashed, and taken to become terrorists. I stand with these girls. If that is political, then so be it".

Sharma directly addressed the criticism, stating, "If telling the truth is being shameful, then I don't mind being shameless. I have no shame in saying I am anti-terrorism. People who are calling it shameful—I think it has hit a nerve, and I don't think nerves are hit by lies". She added that it would have been "shameful" not to make the film.

"The Kerala Story," released in 2023, sparked nationwide debate due to its sensitive subject matter, exploring the alleged ISIS recruitment of women in India. Despite facing heavy criticism, it resonated with audiences and achieved box office success. Sharma remains unwavering in her support for the film, stating, "I can't see it in any other way. I have to stand with the truth".

Adah Sharma is currently engaged in several projects, including two horror films and an action drama.
