A 70-year-old Nepali security guard, Jerilal, was brutally murdered in Bengaluru on Sunday afternoon in the Talaghattapura area. The alleged perpetrator is Mahindra, a 28-year-old acquaintance of Nepali origin. The incident is believed to have stemmed from a heated argument that escalated into violence.
Jerilal had been working as a security guard in Bengaluru for the past 15 years and resided at Sharadha Farms, where he was employed. Mahindra, who was previously working as housekeeping staff but is currently unemployed, had known Jerilal for several years and was a frequent visitor to his shed on the farm.
According to initial investigations, the two men engaged in a heated argument around 11:30 am on Sunday, reportedly concerning financial and family matters. The confrontation intensified, leading Mahindra to allegedly grab a wooden rolling pin and attack Jerilal, striking him multiple times on the head and face. Jerilal succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while Mahindra fled the location.
The crime was discovered later that day by Suresh, a distant relative of Jerilal, who found the body in the shed. Witnesses confirmed having seen Mahindra on the property shortly before the incident.
Following the discovery, the Talaghattapura police launched an investigation and apprehended Mahindra on Monday. During questioning, he reportedly confessed to the crime. A murder case has been registered, and authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
This incident adds to a disturbing trend of violence, including cases involving victims from Nepal, in Bengaluru. In December 2024, two hotel employees, also hailing from Nepal, were arrested in connection with the murder of a security guard and his friend at a factory premises in Yelahanka New Town. These incidents highlight the vulnerabilities faced by migrant workers and the need for increased safety measures and community support.
