A grenade explosion occurred at a security forces camp in Assam's Golaghat district on Tuesday night, June 24, 2025, injuring three police personnel. The incident took place at a camp located in Sapjuri Panbadi, Bokakhat, sparking fear in the surrounding area.
Initial reports suggest that the grenade may have been thrown into the camp by individuals riding a motorcycle. Authorities are currently investigating the matter and suspect the involvement of militants. Following the explosion, security measures have been heightened across Bokakhat, and a search operation has been launched to apprehend those responsible.
The injured police personnel have been identified as Siddharth Borbora, Sushil Bhumij, and Mintu Hazarika. All three sustained serious injuries and were immediately taken to Bokakhat Civil Hospital for medical treatment. The Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) is leading the security forces in a manhunt to locate the perpetrators of the attack.
This incident follows a pattern of attacks involving grenades in Assam. In December 2023, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) took over the investigation into a grenade attack at the Kopahtoli camp of the Indian Army in Tinsukia. The United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I), led by Paresh Baruah, claimed responsibility for that attack. The NIA is also examining potential connections between that incident and two other grenade attacks that occurred in December 2023 near a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp in Joysagar, Sivasagar district, and near the army camp gate at Jorhat military station. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in those earlier blasts.
In response to these and other similar incidents, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged law enforcement agencies to create joint task forces in the northeast to combat insurgents who launch attacks and then flee to neighboring Myanmar.
The recent grenade explosion in Bokakhat has prompted swift action from law enforcement and security agencies. Investigations are ongoing, and further information is expected to be released as the investigation progresses. The authorities are taking the necessary steps to maintain peace and security in the region and bring the culprits to justice.
