Suryakumar Yadav, India's T20I captain, has successfully undergone surgery for a sports hernia in Munich, Germany. The 34-year-old cricketer shared the update on his social media, expressing relief and optimism about his recovery. "Life Update: Underwent surgery for a sports hernia in the lower right abdomen. Grateful to share that after a smooth surgery, I'm already on the road to recovery. Can't wait to be back," he wrote.

The surgery took place in Germany after consultations with specialists in the UK, where it was determined that surgical intervention was necessary. Following the procedure, Suryakumar is expected to begin his rehabilitation at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru in approximately two weeks.

A sports hernia is a soft tissue injury affecting the groin or lower abdomen, often involving muscles, tendons, or ligaments. It is a relatively common issue among athletes who engage in high-impact sports.

Suryakumar's recent form has been exceptional. In the IPL 2025, he was named Player-of-the-Tournament, amassing 717 runs for the Mumbai Indians, only second to Sai Sudharsan. He continued his impressive run in the T20 Mumbai League, leading the Triumph Knights Mumbai North East. His last international appearance was in the T20I series against England in February 2025.

Looking ahead, India's next white-ball assignment is a tour of Bangladesh in August, featuring three ODIs and three T20Is. Suryakumar, who last played in the 50-over format during the 2023 World Cup final, is expected to lead the T20I side in Chattogram on August 26.

Notably, this is Suryakumar's third surgery in as many years. He underwent ankle surgery in 2023 and had a similar sports hernia procedure in 2024. Despite these setbacks, his determination to return to the field remains strong. His fans and the Indian cricket fraternity eagerly await his comeback, hoping he will continue his stellar performances.
