CCTV footage from South Calcutta Law College has corroborated a 24-year-old student's allegations of gang rape that occurred on Wednesday evening. According to police reports, the footage, which spans seven hours from 3:30 PM to 10:50 PM on June 25, 2025, captures movements around the college premises, confirming that the victim was forced into the security guard's room.

An investigating officer stated that the CCTV footage confirms the girl's allegations, showing the movements of the three accused, the security guard, and the victim. The police are currently examining the footage. The incident occurred at the South Calcutta Law College.

Following the student's complaint, Kolkata Police formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the incident. The five-member team, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (South Suburban) Pradeep Kumar Ghoshal, is examining multiple aspects of the case, including a detailed review of the CCTV footage to establish a timeline of events. The SIT is also collecting forensic evidence from the scene.

The police have arrested four people in connection with the case: Monojit Mishra, an alumnus and ad-hoc college employee, Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukherjee, both current students, and Pinaki Banerjee, the college security guard. The security guard was arrested after providing inconsistent statements during questioning. According to reports, the guard did not protect the victim and left the scene while she was being forced into his room.

Investigators have also recovered a 90-second video clip of the crime from the cellphones of the three accused. The victim stated in her complaint that the accused filmed the sexual assault and threatened to circulate the clips if she reported the incident to the police. A forensic analysis of the video is underway to determine if it was shared or deleted.

In addition to the CCTV footage, investigators collected evidence from three locations on campus: the students' union room, the washroom, and the guard's room. There were clear signs of a struggle in all three rooms, and the samples have been sent for forensic examination. The victim also stated in her complaint that she was threatened with a hockey stick by the accused.

The victim's confidential statement was recorded before an Alipore court magistrate, and she has begun counseling. She was also escorted by a police contingent to the college campus to reconstruct the crime scene. Medical reports have confirmed forceful penetration and injuries.

According to investigators, the woman told the three accused that she had a boyfriend and was "happy with him" and would not "cheat him". The police are investigating whether the crime was pre-planned.
