An Air India flight AI357, flying from Tokyo's Haneda Airport to Delhi on June 29, 2025, was forced to make a precautionary landing in Kolkata due to persistently high cabin temperatures. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner landed safely in Kolkata, where the aircraft is currently undergoing technical inspections.
The airline has confirmed the diversion, stating that the crew reported "persistent warm temperatures" in the cabin. The decision to divert the flight was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure passenger safety and comfort.
Air India has also stated that ground staff in Kolkata are providing all necessary support to the passengers to minimize the inconvenience caused by the unforeseen diversion. Alternative arrangements are being made to fly the passengers to Delhi as soon as possible. The airline has expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to its passengers.
This incident is the second in just two days for Air India. On June 27, 2025, another Air India flight, AI639 from Mumbai to Chennai, had to return to its origin airport after the crew detected a burning smell in the cabin. The aircraft landed safely in Mumbai, and a replacement aircraft was arranged to carry passengers to Chennai.
These back-to-back incidents have raised concerns about Air India's operational reliability. The airline has faced a series of disruptions recently, including a security alert. The flight AI357 had taken off from Tokyo at 12.31 pm and landed in Kolkata at 3.33 pm (all timings local).
