Vinod Kambli, a former Indian cricketer who once enjoyed immense fame and fortune, has faced a series of personal and financial struggles in recent years. Despite his undeniable talent, which drew comparisons to his childhood friend Sachin Tendulkar, Kambli's career was cut short due to a combination of factors, including health issues, disciplinary problems, and what some perceived as a lack of dedication.

Recently, Kambli's financial situation has garnered public attention. Once boasting a net worth estimated at ₹12-13 crore, he now primarily relies on a ₹30,000 monthly pension from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). In December 2024, a video of Kambli attending an event in Mumbai commemorating his late mentor Ramakant Achrekar, alongside Sachin Tendulkar, went viral, raising concerns about his health and well-being.

In light of his circumstances, several individuals and organizations have stepped forward to offer assistance. In 2022, Kambli revealed in an interview his desire for cricket-related work. Following this, a Maharashtra businessman, Sandeep Thorat, offered him a job in the finance division of Sahyadri Industry Group with a salary of ₹1 lakh per month. However, Kambli declined the offer, explaining that his passion lies in cricket and he wanted to work in a cricket-related field.

Details of Kambli's past have resurfaced, including an anecdote about an incident where he reportedly refused a part-time job and instead took 700 pounds from his father, spending it with friends. This story, while not recently reported, highlights a perception of Kambli as someone who "never cared about money," possibly contributing to his current financial difficulties.

Adding to his challenges, Kambli has been battling health issues. In December 2024, he was admitted to a hospital in Thane for a urinary infection and cramps. Further tests revealed blood clots in his brain. Kambli has also reportedly undergone rehabilitation for addiction 14 times.

Recognizing Kambli's struggles, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has pledged his support. Gavaskar's CHAMPS Foundation will provide Kambli with a monthly sum of ₹30,000, along with an annual medical support of ₹30,000. The 1983 World Cup-winning team has also offered assistance, contingent upon Kambli's willingness to seek rehabilitation. Kambli has expressed his readiness to enter rehab, emphasizing the importance of his family's support. Sachin Tendulkar has also provided financial assistance to Kambli in the past, particularly during two critical surgeries following a heart attack in 2013.

Despite the hardships, Kambli remains grateful for the support he has received and committed to improving his health and contributing to cricket. He has expressed a desire to work with young cricketers and contribute to Mumbai cricket.
